IOTA and Automotive Giants Established A New Blockchain Research Group

Four companies which are the largest automobile manufacturers in the world, announced that they have unveiled a common Blockchain platform that will change the field of transport.

Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative (MOBI) is idea that is showed up after together working of over thirty participants including BMW, GM, Ford, Renault, Bosch, Hyperledger, IBM and IOTA.

With this initiative on the official page of the project, it is aimed “using blockchain and related technologies to make mobility safer, greener, and more affordable,”

MOBI is becoming the biggest joint initiative in the automotive sector. Previously, some producers have been involved in separate Blockchain services or similar initiatives such as Hyperledger .

In a statement made by Chairman and CEO Chris Ballinger of MOBI:

“By bringing together automakers, suppliers, startups, and government agencies, we can accelerate adoption for the benefit of businesses, consumers and communities”

Although the definition of MOBI is quite wide, the potential of it can bring the blockchain technology to the high level after the great efforts .

When we looked at the previous examples in the automotive sector, Daimler company announced MobiCoin , its their own crypto currency. This crypto is aimed at rewarding drivers according to the behaviors they show on the road and is now in a 3 month test period.
