Walmart, Exxon Mobil, Amazon, Apple, General Motors: All time winners in the ‘Fortune 500’ list : Walmart is the company which has gained the most in the Fortune 500 list. It is retaining the topmost spot 6 years in a row. The retailer was also the 1st company which generated sales of over $ 500 billion. As a result, it grabbed the top spot. Similarly, energy giant Exxon Mobile also returned to the 2nd spot. Amazon moved into the top 10 for the 1st time. It is currently ranked at position 8.
On the other hand, when you look at Apple, it is at the 4th position. It lost a single sport. However, the sales of the company grew by 6%. At the same point in time, it got the pedestal of the most valuable tech company in Fortune 500. The total profits of Apple were $ 48 billion. Apple had the highest profits in the tech category for 4th year consistently. When you look at some of the other corporations in top 10, you will realize that these are Berkshire Hathaway, UnitedHealth Group, McKesson, CVS, AT&T, General Motors.
When you look at the equity performance of the Fortune 500 companies, the average was 18% in the year 2017. When you purely compare the companies by the way of average return, Netflix is at the forefront. Nvidia is a company which has gained the most in the Fortune 500 list. It has gained roughly 80 positions.
If you look into the turnover of Fortune 500 companies, it is almost 2/3rd of the US GDP. It stands at $ 12.8 trillion. The overall profit is $ 1 trillion. The market cap of these companies is $ 21.6 trillion. The total employment which is generated by the Fortune 500 companies is 28.2 million.
Number 1 company:
If you look at the number 1 company in Fortune 500 list, only 3 companies have bagged the spot since 1955. These are the general motor, Walmart as well as Exxon Mobile.
As you can see, in terms of the older companies, there is not much change when it comes to the Fortune 500 companies. However, there were a few companies which made it to the Fortune 500 list for the 1st time around. These included Coty, Ulta Beauty, Conduent, Fortive.
It remains to be seen what are the changes which are taking place in the next year.
